International project-based learning
Experiencing a multifaceted approach from refugees’ knowledge
This case study reports the experience of engagement among Venezuelan refugees and food technology students during an arepa-making workshop at a higher education institution in the Northeastern region of Brazil. Under co-execution with the university’s International Cooperation Office, we highlight how internationalization inspired by n-tuple helix innovation models has converted into an “all-inclusive” application of traditional project-based learning covering research, outreach, and entrepreneurship. Such an approach, coined International Project-Based Learning (IPjBL), suggests a novel benchmark to assess higher education internationalization capabilities that considers a multidimensional framework.
