The Politics of Higher Education Funding
Implications for Equity and Internationalization in Kenyan Universities
Higher education funding in Kenya has major implications for equity and internationalization. Given the conundrum of universities seeking to balance equity, quality, and global competitiveness, understanding how funding policies and political dynamics influence resource allocation within Kenyan universities and their prospects for advancing equity and cultivating international collaboration is critical. This paper is primarily conceptual and adopts a narrative thematic review approach to systematically reviewing secondary data sources, including reports from the Ministry of Education, institutional records, academic literature, budget and funding documents, educational stakeholder’s reports, and online repositories.
