Higher Education Internationalisation Models from a Pan-African Perspective
A Reflection on Institutional Experiences and Practices
Higher education internationalisation in the South African context has been shaped by colonial legacies, which have in turn limited the reach of its benefits. In Africa, fewer than 1% of students are able to participate in physical mobility opportunities. This paper will focus on the Durban University of Technology (DUT) internationalisation strategic framework and the objectives that contribute to inclusive comprehensive internationalisation. It will unpack the impact of colonial legacies on the nature and extent of internationalisation in the South African higher education sector. This will be followed by a presentation of the DUT internationalisation strategy. The article will further highlight specific internationalisation at home and internationalisation of the curriculum activities.
