Evaluating Institutional Internationalisation Strategies: An Appreciative Inquiry Case Study
To remain relevant and current, internationalisation strategies should be reviewed rigorously from time to time and, based on the findings, be adapted. This paper reports on a study of internationalisation at a rural university of applied sciences in Germany, undertaken in preparation for a strategy review. We combined document analyses, observations, surveys, interviews, and engagements as research methods. Participants included students and staff. Recommendations for improvement include the integration of recent developments, such as the institution’s membership in a European University Alliance, into the strategy, the setting of clear, measurable internationalisation targets, and the formal recognition of staff and students within internationalisation endeavours.
