Reframing Institutional Internationalisation: Towards a Transformative Practice
This closing reflection synthesises insights from the Special Issue on Institutional Internationalisation Strategies to propose a forward-looking framework for reimagining internationalisation in higher education. Drawing on contributions from diverse sites, it identifies key trends: ethical internationalisation, institutionalisation beyond projectisation, the balance between global ambition and local accountability, and the decentring of Northern epistemologies. The article advances a call for a transformative practice of internationalisation: one that is reflective, justice-oriented, and inclusive. It positions Africa not as a peripheral recipient but as a pivotal contributor to rehumanising global higher education through values of reciprocity, epistemic diversity, and solidarity.
